State Board of Aging and Adult Services
The State Board of Aging and Adult Services was created by State law as the policy-making board for the Division of Aging and Adult Services.
Positions on the State Board are appointed by the Governor with confirmation by the Utah State Senate. The board is composed of seven members whose term of office is four years. A board member may be reappointed for a second four-year term. The board shall have diversity of geographic area, political affiliation, gender, ethnicity, and culture. Members are chosen on the basis of their active interest, experience and demonstrated ability to deal with issues as they relate to aging and adult protective services.
Compensation
Board members are compensated for the costs of their travel to and from Board meetings and receive a pro-rated reimbursement for the time spent in Board meetings. Members are also provided a per-diem associated with overnight stays required for completion of Board business.Required Time and Travel Commitments
Board meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday of each from from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon. There are usually 10 meetings a year with one being designated for an eight hour board retreat or special training.Board meetings are usually held in Salt Lake City but the Board schedules several meetings in various parts of the state in order to see local programs.
Board members are expected to provide time to (1) complete reading and other assignments in preparation for Board meetings; (2) participate on sub-committees created by the Board for special assignments; and (3) attend meetings, conferences and training courses of interest to the aging and adult protective services programs.
Responsibilities
The Board is the program policy-making body for the Division of Aging and Adult Services. In establishing policy, the Board shall seek input from local Area Agencies on Aging, consumers, providers, advocates, Division staff, and other interested parties as determined by the Board.Eligibility for services provided by the Division, or through contractual arrangement, shall be determined by criteria established by the Division and approved by the Board.
The Board shall establish, by rule, a formula for allocating funds to local Area Agencies on Aging, through contracts to provide programs and services to aging populations.
